Hopefully you’re here because you looked at the Werewolf Book Recommendation List and now you want to know what werewolf movies I would recommend. And here we are! Now, as with the book list, there are some parameters for the movie list that are important for you to know. The first being, again, that these are horror movies. Teen Wolf, although a staple of my obviously unsupervised childhood, will not be on this list because Michael J. Fox uses his lycanthropy to play basketball. I need the monstrous from my monster movies, hence, the horror.

I’ve also chosen to focus on movies that aren’t really a monster vs. monster thing. That explains why the Underworld movies aren’t on this list.

The next parameter that I need you to understand is that I am very forgiving of low budget movies, and I’m even pretty easygoing when it comes to lackluster writing. Werewolf movies haven’t historically gotten the same amount of love and philosophy as other monster movies, so I’m always just happy to be watching one. Some of these movies are very low budget, the creature effects (if there are creature effects, some of these movies just put long fingernails and teeth on the “monsters” and I still had a good time watching them) are sometimes lacking, and some of these movies absolutely do not take themselves seriously, which is honestly why I ended up liking them. So these aren’t all Rick Baker effects, top tier writing, best-in-class works. But I liked them. Having said that, there ARE some amazing works of cinematic art in here, this is just a very scattered list.

A couple of things I want to also point out before I get to this list are these: pay attention to the dates after the movie titles because, let’s be honest, a lot of these movie titles are not unique and you’ll need that date to get to the right film. And lastly, there are two movies on this list that, like Bishop by Candace Nola in the book recommendation list, don’t feature wereWOLVES but were-something-elses. I’ll put a little note on those, but trust me when I say, these movies were excellent and I would re-watch both of them.

Also, if you’re curious about my reviews and thoughts on some of these individual movies, visit my YouTube page. Click on the “Playlists” tab and go to the “Werewolves!” playlist. You’ll find most of these movies on there!
