Hello everybody!
You can now order my Halloween short story, Mischief, on Amazon! (Here’s the link for my lovely Canadian readers!) This was a short story that I started writing for a call for submissions that I saw online for an anthology. Unfortunately, that opportunity turned out to look less than appetizing for me, so I decided to put it out myself as a treat for my readers (okay, myself too. I love Halloween!). It is $0.99 and is a very short read, but I think this is a good, fun story. It’s not clean and virtuous, so don’t go expecting this to be about pumpkins and cute ghosts with dimples and eyelashes for miles!
Halloween is a time of costumes and ghouls and treats, but don’t forget about the tricks! Mischief details the adventures of a supernatural being released into the world for one night only with the express intent of creating mayhem on an unsuspecting neighborhood. Follow along as many a person is treated to the true meaning of the season!
Thank you to the indefatigable Erin Sweet-Al Mehairi for all of her help (she edited this! She’s incredible!) and advice and to my husband for all of his help in formatting this and helping with the cover. This was my first foray into self-publishing, but I was by no means working alone! I’m lucky enough to know some top quality human beings.
Thank you, as always, for reading and keeping up with my works!
Hey Somer
I’d be curious to know what put you off the antho.
How do you think the current Kindle market responds to short stories sold singly? I live in fear of readers leaving one star reviews just because they expected more words.
Good wishes
Ed
Hi, Edward! Thank you for responding! As for what put me off the anthology…well…it’s possible that with the Samhain business, I am gun shy, but it is also possible that there are just some people you don’t want to work with.
Honestly, I don’t think that this short story is going to sell a ton, because people do seem to prefer short stories in bulk, but this is a sort of present to my readers and my hope is that it is a short and fun read, a quick little jolt of holiday spirit for anyone who grabs a copy. As for one star reviews? Eh. You get those on long books too just because people don’t like the name of the main character. No reason to live in fear of those! Publish and bask in the better reviews.
